Yesterwynde Lyrics

- Meaning
[Intro: Choir]
(Out of the darkness
And into the bright light
We carry the ties
That we bind to you)
[Verse: Floor Jansen]
I am the broken blooming bough
The countless sunsets of a lost world
See me. See me?
So alike we are, you and us, soon
See me, See you
On an island of a shipless crew
[Intro: Choir]
The choir opens the song with a reflection on transition, moving from darkness to light. The ties mentioned in the lyrics symbolize the bonds that connect individuals to their past experiences and to each other. The imagery of carrying these ties suggests that even as people move forward into the light, they are still anchored by their histories.
[Verse: Floor Jansen]
In this section, Floor Jansen describes herself as a "broken blooming bough," a metaphor that blends both destruction and renewal. The sunsets she refers to represent the passage of time and the end of an era. The repeated plea to "see me" is a cry for recognition, not only from others but from the world itself. She describes a shared human experience of isolation and disconnection, represented by the island metaphor and the shipless crew. This evokes a sense of being lost, yet still longing for connection.
