Tony Kakkar, born Vipin Kakkar on April 9, 1984, in Rishikesh, India, is a well-known singer, music composer, and lyricist in Bollywood. Coming from a family with strong musical roots, his sisters, Sonu Kakkar and Neha Kakkar, are also popular singers. In the early 2000s, Tony moved to Mumbai to pursue his passion for music, initially working as a lyricist with composer Sandeep Chowta. His breakthrough came in 2012 when he made his debut as a music director for the film Mr. Bhatti on Chutti, composing the track “Good Boys Bad Boys.”
In 2013, Tony gained widespread recognition as a playback singer with the hit song “Sawan Aaya Hai” from the film Creature 3D. His popularity soared further when he co-founded Desi Music Factory in 2014 with Anshul Garg. Under this label, he released numerous successful tracks like “Coca Cola Tu,” “Dheeme Dheeme,” and “Shona Shona,” often collaborating with his sister Neha Kakkar.
Tony’s music is known for its catchy tunes and contemporary beats, appealing to a wide audience. While his work has faced some criticism, particularly regarding accusations of copying visuals from K-pop videos, his influence on the Indian music industry remains undeniable. Apart from his musical career, Tony also appeared as a mentor on the 2020 season of Taare Zameen Par, alongside Shankar Mahadevan and Jonita Gandhi.
