Radu Sîrbu, born on December 14, 1978, in Peresecina, Moldova, is a talented singer, songwriter, and music producer who rose to fame as a member of the internationally successful pop trio O-Zone. Known for their iconic 2004 hit “Dragostea Din Tei,” the group became a global sensation, with their music topping charts across Europe and the viral “Numa Numa” dance video bringing them widespread attention in the United States. O-Zone’s albums “Number 1” (2002) and “DiscO-Zone” (2004) are credited with cementing their place in pop and Eurodance history.
Before his musical breakthrough, Radu grew up in various parts of Moldova, including Peresecina, Orhei, and Bălți, where he developed an early passion for music. While attending the Chișinău Music Conservatory, Radu worked as a DJ at his father’s nightclub and organized musical theater shows for children and teens. His time at the conservatory also saw him teaching children’s vocal classes, laying the groundwork for his future career.
After O-Zone disbanded in 2005, Radu Sîrbu launched a solo career under the name RadU. He released singles such as “Whap-Pa” and the album Alone (2006), continuing to explore his musical vision. Radu’s versatility as an artist extended into collaborations, including the duo MR. & MS. formed with his wife, Ana Sîrbu. The couple released the single “Love Is Not a Reason to Cry” and the album Heartbeat in 2008.
In addition to his performances, Sîrbu has made a name for himself as a skilled producer. His collaborations with DJ Layla on tracks like “Single Lady” and “City of Sleeping Hearts” gained popularity across Europe. Furthermore, Radu’s Wild Rose Project showcased his production abilities, with songs like “Ecstasy” featuring Dee-Dee. Radu continues to influence the European music scene through both his solo projects and collaborative work.
