About paopao
Paola Nicole Marrero Rodríguez, better known as paopao, is a Puerto Rican singer-songwriter making waves with her unique blend of reggaetón and alternative pop. Born in Bayamón, Puerto Rico, in 1996, she spent her early years between Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. Her love for music began in preschool with piano lessons, and by her teenage years, she was already writing her own songs.
Determined to turn her passion into a career, paopao pursued a bachelor’s and master’s degree at the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami. Despite facing early doubts about becoming an artist, she gained hands-on experience through internships at music studios and publishing companies. In 2019, she started working as an A&R and label manager at independent Latin music labels, giving her an inside look at the industry before stepping into the spotlight herself.
Her breakthrough came in 2021 when she signed with RichMusic, becoming the label’s first female recording artist. That same year, she released her debut single, Pal Sex, followed by Ascensor with Omar Courtz, catching the attention of major artists like Sech and Dalex. In 2022, she co-created the all-female EP Hembrismo, a bold statement in a male-dominated industry.
Paopao’s innovative style has led to collaborations with artists like Mora and Villano Antillano, and she even appeared in Tainy’s La Baby music video. She earned a Latin Grammy for her work on Chiquis’ Ticket de Salida and continued her rise with the 2024 release of La Nena de un Gang$ter, alongside multiple award nominations. With international tours and a growing fanbase, paopao is proving that she’s not just an artist—she’s a movement.
