About Lucy Dacus
Lucy Dacus, born on May 2, 1995, in Mechanicsville, Virginia, is an American singer-songwriter, guitarist, and producer. Raised in a creative environment, Dacus was adopted as an infant and grew up in the Richmond suburbs. Her mother, a pianist and music teacher, and her father, a graphic designer, nurtured her early love for music. During middle school, she bought her first guitar, an Ibanez, and began to develop her musical talents. Dacus attended Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School before briefly studying film at Virginia Commonwealth University, ultimately leaving to pursue music full-time.
In 2015, Dacus released her debut EP, No Burden, which received critical acclaim and led to a deal with Matador Records. Her debut full-length album, Historian, came in 2018, solidifying her place in the indie rock scene. In 2021, she released Home Video, a deeply personal album that reflects on her youth and experiences.
In addition to her solo work, Dacus is a member of the indie supergroup Boygenius, alongside Julien Baker and Phoebe Bridgers. The trio has earned widespread recognition, and in 2024, they won three Grammy Awards, including Best Alternative Music Album.
Known for her rich vocals and heartfelt lyrics, Dacus has carved out a unique space in the music world. She identifies as queer and currently lives in Los Angeles, after previously residing in Philadelphia and Richmond.
