Jorge Rivera-Herrans

Jorge Miguel Rivera-Herrans, better known as “Jay,” is a Puerto Rican composer, playwright, and musician whose passion for storytelling has redefined modern musical theater. Born in Dorado, Puerto Rico, he discovered his love for music and narrative early on, eventually channeling it into projects that merge classical storytelling with contemporary influences.

While studying at the University of Notre Dame, Rivera-Herrans made his first major mark in theater with My Heart Says Go, a heartfelt coming-of-age musical. However, it was during his college years that he also began developing Epic: The Musical, a project that would propel him into the spotlight. Inspired by Homer’s The Odyssey, Epic reimagines the legendary tale through an electrifying mix of theatrical storytelling, video game aesthetics, and modern music production. The musical spans nine “sagas,” featuring 40 songs and a blend of orchestral, electronic, and rock influences that bring the mythological world to life.

What sets Rivera-Herrans apart is his ability to connect with audiences in the digital age. Through TikTok and other social media platforms, he has offered fans an inside look at his creative process, building a passionate community around Epic: The Musical. The concept album has dominated the US iTunes charts, amassed millions of streams on Spotify, and sparked discussions about potential stage, animated, and video game adaptations.
