About HA SUNG WOON (하성운)
HA SUNG WOON (Korean: 하성운), born on March 22, 1994, is a South Korean singer and songwriter who gained recognition for his work as a member of the boy groups Wanna One and Hotshot, as well as for his solo career. Sungwoon made his debut in the music industry as the main vocalist of Hotshot, a group formed under Star Crew Entertainment (previously Ardor&Able). They debuted on October 29, 2014, with the single “Take a Shot.” While Hotshot didn’t achieve widespread commercial success, it provided Sungwoon with the foundation to hone his talents and prepared him for bigger opportunities in the future.
In 2017, Sungwoon decided to take a leap forward in his career by participating in the popular survival show Produce 101 Season 2, which allowed trainees from various entertainment agencies to compete for a spot in a project boy group. Representing Ardor&Able Entertainment alongside fellow Hotshot member Roh Tae-hyun, Sungwoon impressed both the judges and the audience with his vocals and stage presence. He secured his spot in the final lineup of Wanna One, receiving 790,302 votes, which placed him in the top 11. Wanna One debuted on August 7, 2017, with their mini-album 1×1=1 (To Be One), and quickly became a sensation in South Korea and beyond. Sungwoon continued to showcase his talent not only as a singer but also as a performer, becoming known for his participation in popular television shows like Master Key, Law of the Jungle, and King of Masked Singer. Wanna One’s immense popularity lasted until their disbandment in January 2019, following their final concerts.
Following the end of Wanna One, Sungwoon officially began his solo career. His pre-release single “Don’t Forget,” featuring fellow Wanna One member Park Ji-hoon, was met with positive reception. Shortly after, he released his debut solo EP My Moment on February 28, 2019. The EP featured the title track “Bird,” and Sungwoon played a key role in the writing and composing of all five songs on the album, serving as the executive producer. My Moment quickly climbed the charts, debuting at number one in multiple markets and solidifying his position as a successful solo artist. His solo concerts and fan meetings across Asia sold out, showcasing his growing popularity.
In 2020, Sungwoon continued to expand his discography with his third EP, Twilight Zone, released in June, featuring the energetic lead single “Get Ready.” Later that year, he followed up with his fourth EP, Mirage, released in November, with “Forbidden Island” as the title track. Both albums were well received by fans and critics alike, further establishing Sungwoon as a force in the South Korean music scene.
In 2021, Sungwoon released his fifth EP, Sneakers, followed by a repackaged version, Select Shop, featuring a new track “Strawberry Gum” with rapper Don Mills. Sungwoon chose not to renew his contract with Star Crew Entertainment later that year, signaling the beginning of a new chapter in his career. Throughout his journey, HA SUNG WOON has showcased his diverse talents as a singer-songwriter, earning respect for his vocal ability, creative input, and dedication to his craft.
