Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini, better known as Doja Cat, was born on October 21, 1995, in Los Angeles, California. Raised in a culturally rich environment, she is the daughter of Deborah Sawyer, an American graphic designer of Jewish heritage, and Dumisani Dlamini, a South African actor and producer. Doja Cat’s interest in music began at an early age, and she started uploading tracks to SoundCloud as a teenager. Her early success on the platform eventually led to a record deal with Kemosabe and RCA Records in 2013.

Her debut EP Purrr! arrived in 2014, followed by her first studio album, Amala, in 2018. Doja Cat rose to viral fame with her playful and humorous music video for “Mooo!” in 2018, which became a major internet sensation. This helped propel her into the mainstream, and her subsequent album, Hot Pink (2019), featured the chart-topping single “Say So,” which reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100.
