About Amy Shark
Amy Shark, born Amy Louise Billings on May 14, 1986, in Gold Coast, Queensland, is a celebrated Australian indie pop singer-songwriter and producer. Before rising to fame, she performed under the name Amy Cushway, quietly releasing music from 2008 to 2012. Her big break came in 2016 with the heartfelt single “Adore,” which climbed to number 3 on the ARIA Singles Chart and claimed the number 2 spot on Triple J’s Hottest 100. That success earned her a deal with Sony Music Australia and kick-started her journey into the national spotlight.
In 2017, Shark dropped her debut EP Night Thinker, which scored her two ARIA Awards and cemented her place in the Australian music scene. A year later, her first full-length album, Love Monster, debuted at number one and included hit tracks like “I Said Hi.” In 2021, she followed it up with Cry Forever, which featured the stirring single “Everybody Rise.” Her third album, Sunday Sadness, released on August 16, 2024, marked a deeper, more introspective turn in her sound, reflecting her continued growth as an artist.
Outside the recording studio, Amy Shark has become a familiar face on Australian television, joining the judging panel of Australian Idol in 2023. She’s also opened for global icons like Sia and Coldplay, further expanding her reach and fan base. Known for her vulnerability and distinctive vocal style, she’s earned numerous ARIA Awards and the admiration of fans across the country.
Despite her success, Shark remains grounded. Married to Shane Billings, who also manages parts of her career, she relocated to Sydney in 2021 to pursue new opportunities. Throughout it all, she’s stayed open about the challenges of fame and the importance of mental health, adding a layer of honesty that resonates just as much as her music.
