Matthew Kim, professionally known as BM (short for Big Matthew), is a Korean-American rapper, songwriter, composer, and producer born on October 20, 1992, in Los Angeles, California. He gained widespread recognition as a member of the South Korean co-ed group KARD, formed under DSP Media.

BM’s journey into music began in 2011 when he moved to South Korea to pursue his dreams. He participated in the first season of the SBS reality competition show K-pop Star, where he gained exposure but did not make it past the top 50. Nevertheless, his determination led him to sign with DSP Media. BM officially debuted as a member of KARD on July 19, 2017, with their mini-album Hola Hola. In the group, he shines as the main dancer, lead rapper, and vocalist.

Before his work with KARD, BM featured in Goo Hara’s 2015 song La La La from her debut EP Alohara (Can You Feel It?). He also appeared alongside her in the music video and live performances for the track Choco Chip Cookies.

Expanding his musical horizons, BM launched his solo career with the digital single Broken Me, released on June 9, 2021. His versatility and captivating stage presence have made him a key figure in K-pop, known for his dynamic performances both as part of KARD and as a solo artist.
