Black Soprano Family

The Black Soprano Family (BSF) is a Buffalo-based hip-hop collective and independent record label founded in 2012 by rapper Benny the Butcher. Rooted in the city’s rich but often overlooked rap scene, BSF serves as both a launching pad for emerging artists and an extension of the Griselda movement, known for its hard-hitting, streetwise lyricism and gritty boom-bap production.

The crew boasts a talented roster, including Rick Hyde, Heem, ElCamino, Fuego Base, Loveboat Luciano, and Jonesy. BSF made waves with projects like The Respected Sopranos (2020), a collaboration with DJ Drama that put their lyrical prowess on full display, and Long Live DJ Shay (2022), a heartfelt tribute to their late mentor and producer, DJ Shay. These releases cemented BSF’s reputation for blending raw storytelling with polished, nostalgic beats that resonate with hip-hop purists.
