About Alvaro Diaz
Álvaro Díaz, born Jorge Álvaro Díaz Rodríguez on July 25, 1995, in San Juan, Puerto Rico, is a visionary force in Latin music, celebrated for his genre-bending sound that fuses reggaeton, hip-hop, punk, and electronic influences. Raised in the vibrant neighborhood of Hato Rey, Díaz grew up surrounded by music—his mother sang, and his father played in a salsa orchestra. But it was artists like Kanye West, Kid Cudi, and Eminem who opened his eyes to a different kind of musical expression, helping shape his alternative approach to Puerto Rican hip-hop.
He launched his music career on SoundCloud in 2012, grabbing attention with the single “Chicas de la Isla.” His debut album Hato Rey (2015) paid tribute to his roots while experimenting with funk, boomba, and soul. Projects like San Juan Grand Prix and Díaz Antes expanded his sonic palette and featured high-profile collaborations with Yandel and C. Tangana.
In 2021, Felicilandia marked a major turning point. The album, imagined as a euphoric theme park, introduced Díaz to a wider audience and solidified his spot in the Latin urbano movement. In 2024, he followed up with Sayonara, a moody, introspective record about heartbreak and closure, incorporating everything from Latin trap to punk rock and house.
Díaz’s genre-defying style has not only earned him accolades like the Top New Artist award at Premios Tu Música Urbano, but also fashion cred—he walked at New York Fashion Week in 2022. With each release, he pushes Latin music forward while staying deeply connected to his creative roots.
