Benny Lyrics – Luke Hemmings

[Verse 1]
Hemmings describes watching from the outside, feeling disconnected and questioning if he should return home. The "sentimental landslide" represents overwhelming emotions, but he feels he doesn't have the time to address them. Saying goodbye from a dark hotel room symbolizes his isolation and the emotional distance he feels. Living on the sidelines indicates his feeling of being an observer in his own life, unsure of what actions to take.

[Chorus]
In the chorus, Hemmings emphasizes his willingness to go to extreme lengths to provide comfort and warmth for Benny, even if it means harming himself. He questions the impact of Benny's absence, wondering how different his life would be if he had never known Benny. This reveals the deep emotional connection and dependency he feels towards Benny.

[Verse 2]
Hemmings sees Benny in photos, highlighting his longing to be with them. The guilt he feels is reflected in the face of strangers, indicating that his absence weighs heavily on him. He questions if he is being too cold or emotionally distant, pondering if this is all he can offer. He wants Benny to understand his feelings and the internal conflict he is experiencing.

[Chorus]
The chorus is repeated, reinforcing Hemmings' willingness to sacrifice for Benny and his fear of losing touch with them. The repetition of "setting myself on fire to keep you warm" underscores the intensity of his emotions and the lengths he is willing to go to maintain their connection.

[Outro]
In the outro, Hemmings continues to question the significance of his relationship with Benny, pondering what his life would be like without them. This repetition highlights his fear of losing Benny and the emotional turmoil that accompanies such thoughts.
