Wizkid

Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, better known as Wizkid, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, and record producer born on July 16, 1990, in Surulere, Lagos. His passion for music sparked at a young age, and by the time he was 11, he was already recording music with a group of friends from his church, forming a collective called the Glorious Five.

Wizkid’s breakthrough came in 2009 when he signed with Empire Mates Entertainment. His debut album, Superstar (2011), featured the chart-topping single “Holla at Your Boy,” which catapulted him into the limelight. Over the years, Wizkid continued to rise to international fame with albums such as Ayo (2014), Sounds from the Other Side (2017), and Made in Lagos (2020). The latter album, which included the hit single “Essence” featuring Tems, made history as the first Nigerian song to chart on the Billboard Hot 100.

In 2022, he released More Love, Less Ego, followed by Morayo in 2024, which shattered records for the largest streaming debut by an African album on Spotify. Known for his unique fusion of Afrobeats, R&B, reggae, and pop, Wizkid’s music resonates globally, further cementing his place as a leading figure in international music.

Beyond his musical talents, Wizkid has made a mark in the fashion world, combining traditional Nigerian styles with modern streetwear and high-end fashion brands like Nike and Puma. His collaborations with global icons such as Naomi Campbell have added to his reputation as a trendsetter.
