About Wax (MTP)
Wax, born Michael Jones on April 5, 1980, is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, and producer best known for his sharp lyricism, genre-bending sound, and unfiltered storytelling. Hailing from Dunkirk, Maryland, Wax first gained attention through YouTube in the mid-2000s, where his witty freestyles and original songs—like the viral hit “New Crack”—helped him stand out in a crowded online music scene.
Before his solo career took off, Wax was the frontman of MacGregor, a band that fused rock, funk, and hip-hop. After the group disbanded, he teamed up with longtime collaborator and producer EOM (Elements of Music) to drop Liquid Courage in 2008—a project that put his name on the map for fans of independent, heartfelt rap.
Wax’s unique blend of humor and raw honesty caught the eye of Def Jam Recordings, leading to a deal in 2011 and the release of his mixtape Scrublife. A year later, he found international success with “Rosana,” a tongue-in-cheek single that climbed charts across Europe and became one of his signature tracks.
His discography includes standout projects like Continue, Eviction Notice, and Livin’ Foul, each balancing clever wordplay with deeper emotional layers. Outside of music, Wax has dabbled in comedy and collaborated with YouTube sensation Ray William Johnson in the animated music group Your Favorite Martian.
