Wale, born Olubowale Victor Akintimehin on September 21, 1984, in Washington, D.C., is a prominent American rapper, singer, and songwriter celebrated for his introspective lyrics and diverse musical style. Hailing from a Nigerian Yoruba family that moved to the U.S. in 1979, Wale grew up in the D.C. area. He attended Quince Orchard High School and later pursued college at Robert Morris University, Virginia State University, and Bowie State University, though he eventually left due to academic challenges.

Wale’s music career took off in 2006 when his track “Dig Dug (Shake It)” received significant airplay in the D.C. area. This success led to a deal with Allido Records in 2007. His debut album, Attention Deficit (2009), featured collaborations with artists like Lady Gaga on the hit single “Chillin’,” earning him wider recognition.

In 2011, Wale signed with Rick Ross’s Maybach Music Group, which led to the release of Ambition. The album featured the Grammy-nominated hit “Lotus Flower Bomb” with Miguel, marking a pivotal moment in his career. His subsequent albums, The Gifted (2013) and The Album About Nothing (2015), both debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, cementing his place in hip-hop.
