Voyage

Voyage was a vibrant French disco and pop group that lit up the international music scene between 1977 and 1982. Formed by a team of accomplished session musicians—André “Slim” Pezin on guitar, Marc Chantereau on keyboards, Pierre-Alain Dahan on drums, and Sauveur Mallia on bass—the group blended slick production with infectious rhythms. British vocalist Sylvia Mason-James lent her soulful voice to their first two albums, Voyage (1977) and Fly Away (1978), helping define the group’s early sound.

Their music was a global journey through sound, fusing disco beats with influences from around the world. Tracks like “From East to West” and “Scotch Machine” captured this international spirit and earned the band a top 20 spot in the UK charts. In the U.S., they found major success with both albums hitting number one on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart. Their biggest single, “Souvenirs,” became a dance floor classic and even cracked the Billboard Hot 100 in 1979.

When Mason-James left the group, drummer Pierre-Alain Dahan stepped in as lead vocalist. This lineup change brought a new flavor to their later albums—Voyage 3 (1980) and One Step Higher (1982)—which leaned more toward polished pop than pure disco.

Although Voyage’s time in the spotlight was brief, their legacy endures. Known for their smooth arrangements and worldly sound, they remain beloved among disco fans and vinyl collectors alike, remembered as one of the few French groups to break through on the international stage during the golden age of disco.
