About The-Dream

Terius Youngdell Nash, professionally known as The-Dream, is a highly influential American singer-songwriter and record producer, born on September 20, 1977, in Rockingham, North Carolina. Raised in Atlanta, Georgia, after moving there at the age of two, he grew up under the guidance of his grandfather, who instilled in him a strong work ethic. The tragic death of his mother when he was 15 deeply impacted him, inspiring him to write songs that often emphasize female empowerment, a theme evident in many of his works.

The-Dream’s music career took off in 2001 when he met R&B producer Laney Stewart, who helped him secure a publishing deal. His breakthrough came when he co-wrote Britney Spears’ hit “Me Against the Music” in 2003. He continued to rise in the music industry, notably co-writing Rihanna’s chart-topping single “Umbrella” in 2007, which earned him widespread recognition. This success led to a recording contract with Def Jam Recordings, where he released his debut album, Love/Hate (2007). The album, produced in collaboration with Tricky Stewart and Los Da Mystro, featured hits like “Shawty Is a 10” and “Falsetto,” receiving critical acclaim and establishing The-Dream as a prominent R&B artist.

Following his debut, The-Dream released Love vs. Money in 2009, an album that was both commercially successful and critically acclaimed. It included popular singles like “Rockin’ That Shit” and “Walkin’ on the Moon.” In 2010, he released his third studio album, Love King, which he initially announced would be his last solo project. Despite this claim, he continued to produce music, releasing 1977 as a free download in 2011 and later commercially through Def Jam in 2012.

The-Dream’s influence extends beyond his own recordings. He has been a prolific songwriter and producer for other artists, contributing to some of the biggest hits in R&B and pop music. His collaborations include writing and producing songs for Beyoncé, such as “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)” and “Partition,” Mariah Carey’s “Touch My Body,” Justin Bieber’s “Baby,” and Kanye West’s “All of the Lights.” His work has earned him eight Grammy Awards from 21 nominations, including a nomination for Songwriter of the Year at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards.

In addition to his earlier successes, The-Dream has released multiple albums under his own label, Radio Killa Records. His later works include the ambitious triple album Ménage à Trois: Sextape Vol. 1, 2, 3 in 2018, followed by Sextape 4 in 2020. His music, characterized by its blend of electronic pop and R&B, has been influential in shaping the genre, earning him a place among the top music producers and songwriters of his generation. The-Dream continues to be a dynamic force in the music industry, celebrated for both his solo work and his contributions to the success of many iconic artists.
