About Kid Cudi

Scott Ramon Seguro Mescudi, known by his stage name Kid Cudi, was born on January 30, 1984, in Cleveland, Ohio. He emerged as a multifaceted artist, excelling as a rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer, actor, and fashion designer. Growing up in Cleveland, Cudi experienced a challenging childhood, marked by the loss of his father to cancer when he was just 11 years old. This event deeply affected him and would later influence the themes of his music. Cudi attended Shaker Heights High School before transferring to Solon High School, where he was eventually expelled. Despite these setbacks, he earned his GED and briefly studied film at the University of Toledo before dropping out to pursue a career in music.

Cudi moved to New York City, where his music career began to take shape. He gained initial recognition with his breakout single “Day ‘n’ Nite,” which he self-published on MySpace. The song quickly gained popularity online and attracted the attention of record producers Plain Pat and Emile Haynie, with whom he collaborated on his debut mixtape, A Kid Named Cudi (2008). The mixtape’s success caught the eye of Kanye West, who signed Cudi to his GOOD Music label in late 2008.

In 2009, Cudi released his debut studio album, Man on the Moon: The End of Day. The album was a critical and commercial success, featuring hits like “Day ‘n’ Nite” and “Pursuit of Happiness,” and achieving quadruple platinum certification by the RIAA. His follow-up album, Man on the Moon II: The Legend of Mr. Rager (2010), continued his success with platinum certification and singles like “Erase Me” featuring Kanye West. Cudi’s versatility extended beyond hip-hop; he formed the rock band WZRD with producer Dot da Genius, and their debut album in 2012 topped the Billboard Top Rock Albums chart.

Over the years, Cudi continued to experiment with different musical styles. His third album, Indicud (2013), peaked at number two on the Billboard 200 and featured the platinum-certified single “Just What I Am.” However, his subsequent albums, Satellite Flight: The Journey to Mother Moon (2014) and Speedin’ Bullet 2 Heaven (2015), received mixed reviews. Cudi’s sixth album, Passion, Pain & Demon Slayin’ (2016), marked a return to critical favor, with the Pharrell Williams-assisted single “Surfin'” gaining particular attention.

In addition to his music, Cudi ventured into acting, making his debut in the HBO series How to Make It in America in 2010. He appeared in several films, including Need for Speed (2014), Don’t Look Up (2021), and X (2022). In 2022, Cudi released his eighth album, Entergalactic, alongside an adult animated special of the same name, both of which were praised by critics.

Throughout his career, Cudi has been recognized as a significant influence on contemporary hip-hop and alternative music. His introspective lyrics often explore themes of depression, loneliness, and mental health, resonating with a wide audience. Cudi’s experimental approach to music, blending genres like psychedelia, R&B, electronica, and rock, has earned him a unique place in the industry. With over 22 million units sold domestically and multiple Grammy Awards to his name, Kid Cudi remains a powerful force in both music and popular culture.
