Teodora Špirić, known by her stage name Teya, is an Austrian singer and songwriter born on April 12, 2000, in Vienna. Raised in a Serbian family, she spent part of her childhood in Kladovo, Serbia, before returning to Vienna. Influenced by iconic artists like Adele and Amy Winehouse, Teya’s musical style is characterized by soulful melodies and emotional depth.
Teya’s musical journey began in 2018 with the release of her debut single, “Waiting For.” She gained early recognition when she participated in Serbia’s national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest in 2020 with her self-penned song “Sudnji dan,” although she finished in tenth place. In 2021, Teya competed in Austria’s talent show Starmania, where she reached the top eight contestants. She also released “Runaway (Stay)” featuring Croatian artist Ninski, further establishing her presence in the music scene.
Her breakthrough came in 2023 when she represented Austria at the Eurovision Song Contest alongside Salena with their song “Who the Hell Is Edgar?”. The track garnered attention, qualifying from the semi-finals and securing a 15th-place finish in the grand final.
In addition to her performing career, Teya has co-written songs for other artists. She worked on “Wasted Love” with Johannes Pietsch, who will represent Austria at Eurovision 2025, and also co-wrote “Heaven Sent,” which earned second place in Malta’s Eurovision selection for 2025. Teya’s songwriting talents continue to make an impact across Europe.
