Tate McRae

Tate McRae, whose real name is Tate Rosner McRae was born on July 1, 2003, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. She is a prominent singer who gained early fame at 13 as the first Canadian finalist on the American reality TV show “So You Think You Can Dance.” She was signed by RCA Records in 2019 after her 2017 viral hit “One Day” and subsequently released her debut EP, “All the Things I Never Said,” in January 2020. Her single “You Broke Me First,” released later that year, became an international sensation, peaking at number 17 on the Billboard Hot 100. By 2021, McRae was the youngest musician to be featured on Forbes’ 30 Under 30 list.

Her follow-up EP, “Too Young to Be Sad” (2021), was the most streamed female EP of that year on Spotify. McRae’s debut studio album, “I Used to Think I Could Fly” (2022), received favorable reviews and peaked at number 13 on the US Billboard 200, reaching the top ten in several countries. McRae’s early life was marked by international experiences, having moved to Oman at age four due to her father’s work. Her mother taught dance there, and McRae attended The American International School Muscat. She began recreational dance training at six and, after returning to Calgary at eight, trained intensively with Drewitz Dance Productions and YYC Dance Project, a company owned by her mother. McRae also trained in ballet at the School of Alberta Ballet. She graduated from Western Canada High School online in 2022.

McRae’s dance career includes numerous accolades. She won Mini Best Female Dancer at the 2013 Dance Awards in New York City, became a brand ambassador for Capezio, and was a finalist at the 2014 New York City Dance Alliance’s National Gala. She performed at Justin Bieber’s Calgary concert during his Purpose World Tour in 2016 and became the highest-placing Canadian on “So You Think You Can Dance,” finishing third. She also performed at the 2016 Teen Choice Awards and was featured on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.”

In 2017, McRae launched her YouTube series “Create With Tate,” showcasing her original songs, including the viral hit “One Day.” This exposure led to her signing with RCA Records in 2019. Her debut EP, featuring the single “Tear Myself Apart” co-written by Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell, sold out its accompanying tour.
