Tallah

Tallah is a heavy-hitting American metal band that’s been shaking up the scene since forming in 2017 in Pennsylvania. Spearheaded by drummer Max Portnoy—son of legendary Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy—and guitarist Derrick Schneider, the group set out to reinvent nu-metal with a ferocious, modern twist. Soon, they teamed up with bassist Andrew Cooper and the wildly expressive vocalist Justin Bonitz, known for his intense stage presence and popular YouTube channel, Hungry Lights.

From the beginning, Tallah set themselves apart with a chaotic yet precise sound, blending the raw aggression of early 2000s nu-metal with the technical force of modern metalcore. Their music features thunderous drums, eerie guitar textures, and unrelenting vocals that swing between guttural growls and manic screams—earning them a growing cult following and a reputation for pushing genre boundaries.

Their debut EP No One Should Read This (2018) kicked things off with a bang, but it was their first full-length concept album Matriphagy (2020) that truly put them on the map. The record was praised for its disturbing narrative, complex songwriting, and emotionally charged performances. In 2022, they followed it up with The Generation of Danger, doubling down on their chaotic sound with even more experimentation and rage.

Despite lineup changes—including the addition of rhythm guitarist Alex Snowden and the departure of Cooper—Tallah remains a force to be reckoned with. They continue to redefine what modern nu-metal can be, delivering high-octane performances and music that’s anything but safe.
