Sushant Ghimire is a Nepali singer whose musical journey began in 2015 when he first made a name for himself as a cover artist. Hailing from Biratnagar, Nepal, Ghimire’s early passion for music was fueled by his love for Hindi music, particularly the works of Atif Aslam and Kailash Kher. Despite his deep affection for music, he initially pursued a bachelor’s degree in engineering. However, he struggled to succeed in this field and eventually dropped out, choosing instead to channel his energies into songwriting and composition.

Ghimire’s foray into the music world was marked by a series of cover songs, which he posted on social media while simultaneously teaching himself to play the guitar. His covers of popular songs such as “Kali Pari,” “Aankhako Nind,” and “Najeek” garnered attention, but it was his original compositions that began to define his career. It took him five years to release his debut single, “Pari,” in 2020. Sushant Ghimire’s breakthrough came with his recent release, “Jindagi Sarara Motor Gadima,” which premiered on January 30, 2024. The song, which features a peppy tune inspired by a motorbike ride, has become a significant hit. The chorus, composed during a motorbike ride, gained viral attention on TikTok, leading to its incorporation into a full song. The music video, depicting a middle-aged man inspired by Mr. Bean, further amplified its success, earning over 100,000 views and reaching number five on YouTube’s trending list. This achievement was particularly exciting for Ghimire as it marked his first appearance on the trending list, adding a new level of visibility to his career.

Ghimire’s previous songs, including “Ajambari Maya” and “Ukali Orali,” also contributed to his rising profile, providing motivation for his new work. Despite the challenges of being a professional artist—such as financial constraints and decisions about performing cover versus original songs—Ghimire has found support through Mantra Guitars, a platform dedicated to promoting emerging artists. This backing has helped him overcome financial hurdles and focus on his original music.

Looking ahead, Ghimire is working on his debut album, slated for release later this year. The album is expected to feature a song in Hindi, reflecting his diverse musical interests and aspirations. In addition to his solo work, Ghimire has also explored musical theater, having performed in the play “Kohi Kina Barbad Hos,” directed by Che Shankar and staged at Kunja Theatre in 2022.
