Shane Boose, better known as sombr, is a rising indie singer-songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist from the Lower East Side of New York City. Born on July 5, 2005, music has been a central part of his life from an early age, thanks to his father’s background in bands and his exposure to classic artists like Crosby, Stills & Nash and Radiohead.
Growing up, sombr honed his craft at LaGuardia High School, where he majored in vocal performance. His classical training—mastering Italian arias and German lieder—gave him a strong technical foundation, but his real passion was in writing and producing his own music. He turned his bedroom into a recording studio, spending endless hours creating songs that blended introspective lyrics with dreamy indie rock melodies.
At just 17 years old, sombr signed with Warner Records in January 2023. That same year, he released his debut EP, In Another Life, produced by Tony Berg (known for working with Phoebe Bridgers). The EP, featuring standout tracks like burner phone, quickly gained momentum online, especially on TikTok, where his music found a devoted audience. Millions of streams on platforms like Spotify soon followed.
By early 2024, sombr took his music to the stage, performing in Los Angeles, New York, and Chicago. His show at Brooklyn’s Baby’s All Right on January 30, 2024, marked the end of his debut tour—an intimate yet powerful set that showcased his raw emotion and deep connection with fans.
Now in 2025, sombr continues to evolve as an artist, fusing his classical roots with contemporary indie rock. With his soulful voice, reflective songwriting, and DIY production style, he’s carving out a unique space in the indie music scene—one heartfelt song at a time.
