Matthieu Le Carpentier, professionally known as Skread, is a highly influential French hip-hop producer and composer, born on September 22, 1981, in Hérouville-Saint-Clair, France. Over the years, Skread has become a key figure in shaping the sound of French hip-hop, collaborating with some of the genre’s biggest names and contributing to the evolution of its style.

Skread’s career began in 2004 when he started producing tracks for renowned artists like Booba, Diam’s, and Rohff. In 2006, he co-founded the record label 7th Magnitude alongside Abdoulaye Doucouré, aka Ablaye. The label became a home for rising talents like Orelsan and Gringe. Skread’s partnership with Orelsan proved especially successful, producing Orelsan’s debut album Perdu d’avance in 2009, which achieved platinum status and launched both of their careers.

Skread’s influence continued to grow with his work on Orelsan’s later albums, Le Chant des sirènes (2011) and La fête est finie (2017), both of which were critically acclaimed and earned multiple awards. Skread’s versatility as a producer also extended beyond French hip-hop, notably co-producing the track “23” on Burna Boy’s 2020 album Twice as Tall, which won the Grammy Award for Best Global Music Album in 2021.

In recent years, Skread has remained an integral part of the music scene, continuing his partnership with Orelsan on the 2021 album Civilisation and contributing to the 2022 single “Ensemble.” His innovative approach to music production has firmly established him as one of the most important figures in French music, with a career that spans over two decades.
