Shakthisree Gopalan, born on October 25, 1987, in Kochi, Kerala, is an Indian singer, songwriter, and composer known for her remarkable vocal range and diverse contributions to both Indian cinema and independent music. She began her musical journey at the age of 13 with Carnatic music training, later pursuing a degree in architecture at Anna University in Chennai.
Her career took off in 2008 when she won SS Music’s Voice Hunt competition, marking the beginning of her professional music journey. That same year, she made her playback singing debut with “Sorgam Madhuvilae” from the Kannada film TN 07 AL 4777. Shakthisree gained widespread recognition with her soulful rendition of “Nenjukulle” from A.R. Rahman’s Kadal (2013), which led to a live performance of the track on MTV Unplugged India alongside Rahman himself.
With over 150 songs to her name across multiple languages including Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi, Shakthisree’s contributions to Indian film music have earned her critical acclaim. Her hit tracks include “Aga Naga” from Ponniyin Selvan: II, “Nenjame Nenjame” from Maamannan, and “Ammaadi” from Hi Nanna.
