Ruel Vincent van Dijk, known simply as Ruel, is a British-Australian singer and songwriter recognized for his soulful voice and emotionally charged music. Born on October 29, 2002, in Isleworth, London, he moved to Sydney, Australia, with his family in 2006. Raised in a creative household, Ruel was drawn to music from a young age. His father, Ralph van Dijk, the founder of the Australian radio advertising agency Eardrum, played a key role in shaping his early musical exposure.

Ruel picked up the guitar at just eight years old and quickly developed a passion for songwriting. His big break came in 2015 when his father sent a demo of him covering James Bay’s “Let It Go” to Grammy-winning producer M-Phazes. Impressed by Ruel’s raw talent, M-Phazes took him under his wing, and in 2017, they released the debut single “Golden Years.” That same year, his song “Don’t Tell Me” caught the attention of Elton John, who praised him on BBC Radio 1, catapulting Ruel into the global spotlight.

In 2018, Ruel dropped his first EP, Ready, featuring the hit “Dazed & Confused,” which won him the ARIA Award for Breakthrough Artist. He followed up with two more EPs, Free Time (2019) and Bright Lights, Red Eyes (2020), each showcasing his evolving artistry.
