Ricky Montgomery

Ricky Montgomery, born Richard Owen Holmes Montgomery on April 3, 1993, in Los Angeles, California, is an American singer-songwriter recognized for his emotive vocals and unique indie-pop sound. Montgomery’s musical journey began in his early teens when he moved to St. Louis, Missouri, at 14. There, he immersed himself in the music scene, playing in various bands and using music as a way to connect with his new environment.

In 2014, Montgomery gained attention on Vine, where he shared original comedic songs that showcased his wit and musical talent. This online success led to the release of his debut EP, Caught on the Moon, and inspired him to leave college and pursue music full-time. He eventually returned to Los Angeles to continue building his career.

Montgomery’s breakthrough moment came in 2020 when his songs “Mr. Loverman” and “Line Without a Hook” went viral on TikTok. These tracks captured the attention of a broader audience, helping him secure a record deal with Warner Records later that year. His music, characterized by heartfelt lyrics and catchy melodies, quickly resonated with fans worldwide. He later collaborated with artists such as mxmtoon and Chloe Moriondo, gaining further recognition in the indie music community.

Outside of his musical career, Montgomery identifies as non-binary, using he/they pronouns. In May 2024, he proposed to writer and journalist Jess Joho, and they announced their engagement in January 2025. As of 2024, Montgomery continues to grow as an artist, blending indie-pop with emotional depth, and remains an influential figure in the modern music scene.
