About Alejandro Sanz
Alejandro Sanz, born Alejandro Sánchez Pizarro on December 18, 1968, in Madrid, Spain, is a legendary musician, singer, and composer. Growing up in Madrid’s Moratalaz neighborhood, Sanz was exposed to music early on by his father, Jesús Sánchez, a book salesman who was also a guitarist. This early influence sparked his interest in playing guitar at the age of seven, with flamenco music from his Andalusian heritage serving as a key source of inspiration.
Sanz’s musical journey began in 1989 with the release of his debut album Los Chulos Son Pa’ Cuidarlos, but it was his 1991 album Viviendo Deprisa that marked his breakthrough in Spain. His 1997 album Más received international acclaim, and his 2000 album El Alma al Aire sold over a million copies in its first week. In 2002, Sanz made history as the first Spanish artist to perform an MTV Unplugged session, further solidifying his global influence.
Collaborating with artists like Shakira, Juanes, and Alicia Keys, Sanz’s career soared, with his 2005 duet with Shakira, La Tortura, becoming a worldwide hit. As of 2024, he holds the record for the most Latin Grammy Awards won by a Spanish artist, with 22 awards out of 47 nominations.
In November 2024, Sanz publicly appeared with actress Candela Márquez at the Latin Grammy Person of the Year gala, confirming their relationship. With his blend of flamenco and modern sounds, Alejandro Sanz remains a cornerstone of the Latin music industry.
