Richie Sambora

Richard Stephen Sambora, born on July 11, 1959, in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, is a celebrated American musician, singer, and songwriter, best known as the lead guitarist of the iconic rock band Bon Jovi. His journey into music began at the age of 12 when he picked up the guitar, drawing inspiration from legends like Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, and Jeff Beck. Growing up in Woodbridge, New Jersey, Sambora was immersed in blues and ’60s rock, which shaped his unique sound and style.

Before joining Bon Jovi in 1983, Sambora played in bands like Message and Mercy, even opening for artists such as Joe Cocker. He briefly auditioned for KISS before becoming a key figure in Bon Jovi, where he co-wrote many of the band’s greatest hits. Songs like “Livin’ on a Prayer” reflect the duo’s shared upbringing and have become anthems for generations of fans.

Beyond his work with Bon Jovi, Sambora pursued a solo career, releasing albums like “Stranger in This Town” (1991) and “Undiscovered Soul” (1998), showcasing his skills both as a guitarist and a songwriter. In 2018, Sambora reunited with Bon Jovi for their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, marking a historic moment in his career. In 2025, he made a surprise appearance at the Rock for Responders concert, honoring first responders and military personnel.
