About Project Pat
Project Pat, born Patrick Earl Houston on February 8, 1973, in Memphis, Tennessee, is a legendary voice in Southern hip-hop. The older brother of Juicy J from Three 6 Mafia, Pat carved his own path in the rap game with a gritty, unapologetic sound that reflects the realities of street life in Memphis.
He began making music in the early ’90s, contributing to his brother’s early projects and joining local rap group The Kaze. His solo debut came in 1999 with Ghetty Green, released under Hypnotize Minds. The album showcased his signature slow drawl and vivid storytelling—qualities that would define his style.
Pat’s breakout moment arrived with his 2001 album Mista Don’t Play: Everythangs Workin, featuring Southern anthems like “Chickenhead” and “Don’t Save Her.” With heavy rotation on BET and MTV, Pat became a household name in hip-hop. But just as his career was taking off, he was sentenced to four years in prison for a parole violation, putting his momentum on pause.
Even behind bars, his music lived on. He dropped Layin’ Da Smack Down in 2002 and returned with Crook by da Book: The Fed Story in 2006, followed by a steady stream of projects that resonated with fans for their raw authenticity.
Beyond music, Pat has been active in prison ministry, offering support and guidance to incarcerated individuals. His influence stretches across generations—artists like Drake and Cardi B have sampled his work. Despite the heartbreaking loss of his son in 2025, Project Pat remains a resilient and respected figure in hip-hop.
