Jamel Bousbaa, better known by his stage name Potter Payper, is a British rapper and songwriter celebrated for his powerful storytelling and unique flow. Born on November 15, 1991, in Barking, London, Potter was raised by his grandmother, Nanny Lucy, after his parents separated. His upbringing played a significant role in shaping his lyrical perspective, which resonates with many listeners.

Potter’s journey into music began in his youth, where he made a name for himself through black box freestyles and grime blogs, often collaborating with his friend KB. In 2013, he released his mixtape Training Day, which earned him widespread recognition and cemented his place in the UK rap scene.

However, in 2015, Potter’s life took a dramatic turn when he was arrested for his involvement in a county lines drug operation, leading to a five-year prison sentence. He was released in June 2020, and shortly after, he dropped Training Day 3, which debuted at number three on the UK Albums Chart, marking a powerful return to the music scene.

In 2021, Potter signed with Def Jam Recordings UK, and his 2022 single Gangsteritus, featuring Tiggs Da Author, became his first UK Top 40 hit. His debut album, Real Back in Style, was released in May 2023 and charted at number two. Despite facing legal setbacks, including a return to jail in 2023, Potter’s influence on UK rap remains undeniable, known for his raw lyricism and resilience in the face of adversity.
