About NCT WISH

NCT WISH is a prominent Japanese boy band, officially recognized as the final sub-unit of the South Korean boy group NCT. Formed under the collaboration of SM Entertainment and Avex Trax, with SM Entertainment’s revered soloist and producer BoA overseeing their development, NCT WISH made a significant impact in the music industry with their unique blend of J-Pop and K-Pop influences. The group officially debuted on February 28, 2024, with their single “Wish,” available in both Japanese and Korean versions.

The origins of NCT WISH trace back to a strategic decision by SM Entertainment to expand their global footprint through various NCT sub-units based in different cities worldwide. The concept of NCT WISH emerged from these plans, with the group’s formation announced on January 17, 2024. The name “NCT WISH” reflects their mission and vision, combining the Neo Culture Technology (NCT) acronym with the concept of “Wish,” symbolizing the group’s aspiration to fulfill their fans’ dreams and desires through their music.

The formation of NCT WISH began with the introduction of its members, each bringing a distinct background and talent to the group. Yushi, who had initially been part of the Japanese boy group Edamame Beans, joined SM Entertainment as a trainee in elementary school, training for approximately seven years. Riku, discovered through the SM Global Audition, had a brief stint in visual advertising before joining the group. Sion was recruited via Instagram, and Ryo was scouted during an NCT 127 concert. Jaehee joined SM Entertainment through scouting in January 2023.

The journey towards their debut involved rigorous training and pre-debut activities. NCT WISH, initially known as NCT New Team, began their public appearances by serving as an opening act for NCT’s concerts in Japan. They also participated in the survival show “NCT Universe: Lastart,” which played a crucial role in finalizing the group’s lineup. The pre-debut single “Hands Up,” released on October 8, 2023, marked their entry into the music scene and set the stage for their official debut.

On February 28, 2024, NCT WISH officially debuted with the release of “Wish,” showcasing their versatile musical style and performance skills. The single, available in both Japanese and Korean versions, was met with enthusiasm from fans and critics alike. Their debut was celebrated with a performance at SMTOWN Live 2024 SMCU Palace in Tokyo, and within 21 days of their debut, they secured their first music show win on SBS M’s The Show.

Following their debut, NCT WISH quickly garnered attention and continued to build their presence in the music industry. They announced their first fan meeting, “NCT WISH: School of Wish,” scheduled for May 25-26, 2024, at Myunghwa Livehall in Seoul. The event was a resounding success, with pre-sale tickets selling out in just 15 minutes. Due to high demand, additional dates were added, leading to a total of 14 meetings across five cities.

In addition to their fan meetings, NCT WISH expanded their influence by performing at GirlsAward, a major fashion event in Japan, on May 3, 2024. Their second Japanese single, “Songbird,” was released on June 25, 2024, with the Korean version following as the lead track for the single album of the same name on July 1, 2024. The group’s ongoing activities include preparations for new music, with a pre-release track scheduled for early September 2024.

NCT WISH’s dynamic presence and rapid rise in the music industry reflect their dedication to connecting with fans through their music and performances. As the final sub-unit of NCT, they continue to push boundaries and set new standards in the evolving landscape of global pop music.
