Nadine Shah

Nadine Shah (born Nadine Petra Katarina Shah on January 16, 1986, in Whitburn, South Tyneside, England) is a British singer-songwriter and pianist renowned for her striking fusion of post-punk, jazz, and indie rock. With roots tracing back to Pakistan and Norway, Shah first found her footing in London’s jazz scene, where she developed her distinctive brooding sound and struck up a friendship with Amy Winehouse. These early influences helped shape her emotionally raw and socially aware songwriting style.

Her debut album, Love Your Dum and Mad (2013), produced by Ben Hillier, introduced Shah’s haunting voice and fearless honesty, inspired in part by the loss of two close friends. This marked the beginning of her outspoken advocacy for mental health awareness.

Over the next decade, Shah continued to carve her own path, releasing Fast Food (2015), Holiday Destination (2017), and Kitchen Sink (2020) — albums that tackled subjects like immigration, sexism, and the struggles of modern life with sharp wit and deep empathy.

In 2024, Shah returned with Filthy Underneath, her most personal project to date. Written during her time in rehab, the album explores themes of addiction, grief, and healing, revealing a raw vulnerability and resilience that resonated deeply with fans and critics alike.

Beyond music, Shah has showcased her versatility as an actress, notably portraying Titania in a celebrated 2022 stage production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Her fearless storytelling and powerful artistry have cemented her as one of Britain’s most compelling and vital voices.
