Mustafa Ahmed, professionally known as Mustafa, is a Canadian poet, singer, songwriter, and filmmaker recognized for his emotive storytelling and evocative music. Born on July 28, 1996, in Toronto, Ontario, Mustafa grew up in the Regent Park neighborhood, a diverse area that played a significant role in shaping his artistic vision. With Sudanese roots, his background deeply influences the themes he explores in his music and poetry.

Initially gaining attention as “Mustafa the Poet,” he began performing his spoken word poetry at the age of 12. His heartfelt performances quickly caught the public’s eye, setting the stage for a career that beautifully merges the art of poetry with the power of music.

In 2021, Mustafa released his debut EP, When Smoke Rises. This deeply personal collection addresses themes of grief, loss, and the struggles of his community, particularly focusing on the untimely deaths of close friends. The EP combines folk influences with subtle electronic textures, creating a sound that is both melancholic and hopeful.

His 2024 album, Dunya, continues this introspective exploration, delving into personal and broader societal narratives, including familial loss and geopolitical challenges. Collaborations with artists like Jamie xx and Aaron Dessner broadened his musical scope while keeping his signature reflective lyricism intact.
