Moonchild Sanelly, born Sanelisiwe Twisha on November 20, 1987, in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, is an innovative musician, dancer, and poet known for her captivating performances and genre-blending sound. After relocating to Durban in 2005 to pursue fashion studies, she launched her own clothing line, Moonchild, marking the start of her creative journey.

As an artist, Moonchild Sanelly has carved a unique niche within South Africa’s vibrant electronic music scene, mixing traditional genres like gqom, amapiano, and kwaito with influences from punk, hip-hop, and jazz. Her distinct style, which she calls “future ghetto punk,” has made her a trailblazer in the music industry.

Throughout her career, Moonchild has collaborated with global superstars, including Beyoncé on her 2019 album The Lion King: The Gift and the virtual band Gorillaz. In 2021, she released her third album, Phases, which explores themes of female empowerment, independence, and liberation.
