Mon Laferte, born Norma Monserrat Bustamante Laferte on May 2, 1983, in Viña del Mar, Chile, is a versatile Chilean-Mexican singer, songwriter, and painter known for her powerful voice and emotional depth. From an early age, Laferte demonstrated a deep passion for music, winning her first guitar at age nine through a school competition. She began performing in local bars in Viña del Mar and Valparaíso before moving to Mexico City in 2007. There, she adopted the stage name Mon Laferte and started performing in nightclubs, eventually releasing her debut single, “Lo mismo que yo,” in 2009.
Over the years, Laferte has embraced a wide range of musical genres, including pop, rock, bolero, cumbia, and salsa, making her one of Latin America’s most innovative artists. Her 2015 album “Mon Laferte, Vol. 1” and 2017’s “La Trenza” both earned her widespread recognition and multiple Latin Grammy Awards, cementing her place in the Latin music scene.
Beyond her music career, Laferte is also a talented painter and a passionate advocate for feminist and LGBTQ+ rights. In 2021, she documented her pregnancy and experiences on her Latin American tour, leading to the release of her Netflix documentary, Mon Laferte, te amo, in August 2024.
