MJ Cole

Matthew James Firth Coleman, better known as MJ Cole, is a trailblazing British producer, DJ, and composer born on August 9, 1973, in London. A classically trained musician, he honed his skills in oboe and piano at prestigious institutions like the Royal College of Music and the City of London School. This classical foundation played a key role in shaping his later contributions to electronic music.

MJ Cole rose to prominence in the late 1990s and early 2000s as a central figure in the UK garage scene. His debut single, “Sincere,” was one of the first garage tracks to break into the UK Top 40, propelling him to the forefront of the genre. His debut album, Sincere (2000), earned critical acclaim and even garnered a nomination for the prestigious Mercury Prize. Over the years, Cole has proven his versatility by collaborating with a wide range of artists, including Dizzee Rascal, Katy B, Example, and Mary J. Blige. Notably, in 2014, he co-wrote and produced “Nobody But You” for Mary J. Blige, working alongside Sam Smith and Jimmy Napes. In 2020, Cole expanded his musical horizons with the album Madrugada, a classical composition that showcased a new side of his artistry.
