About Mau y Ricky
Mau & Ricky, the Venezuelan Latin pop and reggaeton duo, are the musical brainchildren of brothers Mauricio Alberto “Mau” Reglero Rodríguez and Ricardo Andrés “Ricky” Reglero Rodríguez. Born in Caracas, Venezuela, Mauricio on August 17, 1993, and Ricardo on November 21, 1990, they are the sons of the renowned Argentine-Venezuelan singer Ricardo Montaner. Raised in a musically enriched environment, the brothers were exposed to various musical influences from a young age, thanks to their father’s illustrious career. The family relocated to Miami, Florida, when the boys were seven and ten, which marked the beginning of their journey into the music industry.
Mau and Ricky’s musical education began early; they started studying music at ages four and six respectively and performed regularly in a church band they co-founded. Their early music endeavors included performing under the name MR from 2011 to 2015. This period was formative, as they crafted their skills and gained experience performing live. However, it was their rebranding as Mau & Ricky in 2015 that began to solidify their place in the Latin music scene.
Their debut EP, Arte, released in 2017 under Sony Music Latin, was a significant milestone, showcasing their distinct sound and style. The release of their first studio album, Para Aventuras y Curiosidades, in May 2019, catapulted them to greater prominence. The album, which peaked at number three on Billboard’s Latin Pop charts and remained on the Billboard charts for 39 weeks, received widespread acclaim and earned them multiple platinum and diamond certifications in the US. The success of this album was further underscored by its finalist position for the 2020 Billboard Latin Music Awards in the Latin Pop Album of the Year category.
Mau & Ricky’s career trajectory continued to rise with successful collaborations and releases. Their single “Bota Fuego,” featuring reggaeton star Nicky Jam, and their contributions to singles by Thalía, Tini, and Ovy on the Drums helped them maintain their visibility in the Latin music industry. In August 2020, they launched “PAPÁS” and their subsequent album, Rifresh, in November of the same year, which continued to build on their success.
The duo’s third era, starting in 2021, saw the release of “3 de la Mañana” with Sebastián Yatra and Mora, followed by a series of hit singles over the next two years. In November 2023, they announced the release of their Desgenerados Mixtape, featuring both new and previously released tracks. Their highly anticipated project, Hotel Caracas, set for release in 2024, is expected to be their most ambitious endeavor yet, including a headlining tour and a film/documentary about the album’s creation.
In addition to their performance career, Mau & Ricky are accomplished songwriters, having penned hits for notable artists such as Ricky Martin, Karol G, and Juanes. Their songwriting skills have garnered them recognition and awards, including nominations for Latin Grammys and MTV Millennial Awards. The duo’s musical achievements were further highlighted when they were named Kings of Carnaval Miami in 2020, following in their father’s footsteps.
Mau & Ricky’s journey from their early days in Caracas to becoming influential figures in the Latin music scene reflects their talent, dedication, and the rich musical heritage they inherited from their family. Their continued success and innovative contributions to Latin pop and reggaeton mark them as leading figures in the genre.
