Michał Matczak, better known as Mata, is a rising star in the Polish music scene. Born on July 14, 2000, in Wrocław, Poland, he grew up in a family with strong academic roots—his father, Marcin Matczak, is a law professor, while his mother, Arletta Śliwińska-Matczak, runs an English language school. Mata completed his international high school diploma at Stefan Batory High School in Warsaw in 2019.

Mata’s musical journey took off in 2019 with the release of his debut EP, Fumar Mata. However, it was his single “Patointeligencja” that really thrust him into the spotlight, sparking national discussions about the youth culture in Poland. His first studio album, 100 dni do matury, dropped in early 2020 and went straight to number one on the Polish charts, earning quadruple platinum certification. His follow-up album, Młody Matczak, released in October 2021, also reached number one and earned triple platinum status.

Known for addressing themes of youth, privilege, and societal issues in his music, Mata quickly became a voice for his generation. His work has earned him numerous accolades, including multiple Fryderyk Awards for Best Debut and Best Hip-Hop/R&B Album. Beyond his music, Mata is an active activist, particularly advocating for the decriminalization of cannabis in Poland, using his platform to champion social change.
