MAS Vocal

MAS Vocal is a prestigious choral program based at Miami Arts Studio 6-12 at Zelda Glazer, a public magnet school in Miami, Florida. Led by directors Cindy and Ryan Ellis, the program has earned recognition for its high-level vocal training, diverse musical offerings, and commitment to artistic excellence.

Open to students in grades 6 through 12, MAS Vocal provides a comprehensive curriculum that spans classical, jazz, and contemporary choral music. Students must audition to join the program, with requirements differing by grade level. For example, middle school applicants are asked to perform a solo in their natural voice, while high school applicants present a memorized piece from classical or American songbook repertoire, showcasing their vocal technique and stage presence.

The achievements of MAS Vocal are impressive. The program has earned straight superior ratings at district and state Music Performance Assessments (MPA) since 2016. It was also recognized for having the most students in All-State Choral Ensembles in Florida in both 2018 and 2019.

Beyond competitions, MAS Vocal has performed at renowned venues such as the Adrienne Arsht Center, Florida State University, and even at the Latin GRAMMYs. The choir has also participated in international festivals, including the Laurea Mundi Festival in Rome, Italy, and has had the honor of performing Mass at St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City.
