About Luke Combs
Luke Combs, born on March 2, 1990, in Huntersville, North Carolina, has risen to prominence as a leading figure in contemporary country music. From a young age, Combs demonstrated a passion for performance, participating in chorus classes, school musicals, and joining his church choir, which had the distinction of performing at Carnegie Hall. This early immersion in music laid the foundation for his future career.
Raised in Asheville, North Carolina, Combs attended Appalachian State University, where he worked as a bouncer at a local bar. It was in this very bar that he first took to the stage to perform country music, igniting his desire to pursue a music career. Although he was only one hour away from completing his degree, Combs decided to drop out of college and move to Nashville, Tennessee, to chase his dreams.
In 2014, Combs released his debut EP, “The Way She Rides,” followed by “Can I Get an Outlaw” later that year. His third EP, “This One’s for You,” arrived in 2015 and included his breakout single “Hurricane.” This track sold 15,000 copies in its first week, debuting at number 46 on the Hot Country Songs chart. Its success led to a deal with Sony Music Nashville, and “Hurricane” was re-released, eventually reaching number one on the country radio airplay chart in May 2017.
Combs’s major label debut album, “This One’s for You,” was released in June 2017. The album debuted at number one on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart and number five on the Billboard 200. Singles like “When It Rains It Pours” and “One Number Away” further solidified his status, with both tracks topping the Country Airplay chart. The album’s deluxe version, “This One’s for You Too,” featured additional hits like “She Got the Best of Me” and “Beautiful Crazy,” both of which reached number one.
In 2019, Combs released his second album, “What You See Is What You Get,” which topped charts in multiple territories. The album included hits such as “Beer Never Broke My Heart” and “Even Though I’m Leaving,” both of which reached number one on the country charts. His heartfelt single “Six Feet Apart,” released in May 2020, resonated with fans during the COVID-19 pandemic. A deluxe version of his second album, “What You See Ain’t Always What You Get,” included the record-breaking single “Forever After All.”
Combs’s third album, “Growin’ Up,” was released in June 2022, featuring successful singles like “Doin’ This” and “The Kind of Love We Make.” His collaboration with Ed Sheeran on “Life Goes On” and his cover of Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car” from his fourth album, “Gettin’ Old,” further expanded his musical repertoire. Combs’s version of “Fast Car” became a major hit, reaching number two on the Billboard Hot 100.
In 2024, Combs released his fifth studio album, “Fathers & Sons,” preceded by the singles “Ain’t No Love in Oklahoma” and “The Man He Sees in Me.” His personal life also flourished; he married Nicole Hocking in August 2020, and they have two sons, born in June 2022 and August 2023.
Despite his professional success, Combs has openly discussed his struggles with anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder, demonstrating his resilience and relatability. His achievements, including multiple awards and his induction into the Grand Ole Opry, reflect his significant impact on country music. Luke Combs continues to captivate audiences with his heartfelt lyrics and powerful performances, solidifying his place as a modern country music icon.
