Luciano, born Jepther McClymont on October 20, 1964, in the quiet town of Davyton, Manchester Parish, Jamaica, is one of the most respected voices in roots reggae. Known affectionately as “The Messenjah,” Luciano rose to prominence with his smooth, soulful vocals and his deeply spiritual, conscious lyrics. Growing up in a strict Seventh-day Adventist household as one of nine children, music—especially gospel—was an early influence that would later shape the foundation of his reggae sound.

Luciano began his musical journey in the early 1990s, initially recording under the name “Luciana.” He released his first single, “Ebony & Ivory,” in 1992, but it was his 1995 album Where There Is Life—and especially the anthem “It’s Me Again Jah”—that brought him international acclaim. The album marked the start of his mission to uplift and enlighten through music, earning him a loyal global following.

Luciano’s music is steeped in Rastafarian ideals, promoting themes of unity, faith, social justice, and moral integrity. Throughout his career, he has been a strong advocate for positive messaging in reggae, distancing himself from the violent and explicit content found in some corners of the genre. Albums like Messenger (1996), Sweep Over My Soul (1999), and Zion Awake (2014)—the latter earning him a Grammy nomination—reflect his unwavering commitment to truth and spiritual elevation.
