About Lizzy McAlpine

Elizabeth Catherine McAlpine, professionally known as Lizzy McAlpine, is an American singer-songwriter who has rapidly emerged as a distinctive voice in the indie pop and folk music scenes. She was born on September 21, 1999, in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania. Lizzy grew up in the suburbs of Philadelphia in Narberth, where she was raised by her parents, Mark McAlpine and Robin Lacey, alongside her sibling, Emma. Her early exposure to music came from her grandparents’ piano, and she began writing songs as early as sixth grade. During her time at Lower Merion High School, Lizzy honed her musical skills, participating in theater and singing in a co-ed a cappella group.

Lizzy’s passion for music led her to Berklee College of Music in Boston, where she studied songwriting. However, she left Berklee during her junior year to pursue her music career full-time, a decision that would soon pay off. In 2018, she released her debut EP, Indigo, though it is no longer available on most streaming platforms except SoundCloud. Lizzy’s journey as a singer-songwriter began to gain momentum as she started sharing her original songs and covers online through platforms like SoundCloud and YouTube, gradually building a dedicated following.

In 2020, Lizzy released her debut studio album, Give Me a Minute, which was met with critical acclaim. The album showcased her unique blend of folk and folk-pop, characterized by introspective lyrics and emotive melodies. Songs like “Pancakes for Dinner” and “Over-the-Ocean Call” quickly resonated with listeners, establishing Lizzy as a rising star in the music industry. The album’s success was further bolstered by millions of streams on Spotify and other digital platforms.

Lizzy’s sophomore album, Five Seconds Flat, released in April 2022, marked a significant milestone in her career. The album debuted at number five on the US Billboard Heatseekers chart and featured the TikTok-viral single “Ceilings,” which became her first entry on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number 54. The song’s success on TikTok and its subsequent streaming popularity further solidified Lizzy’s presence in the music world. The album’s sound expanded beyond folk, incorporating elements of indie pop, jazz, and R&B, showcasing Lizzy’s versatility as an artist.

In 2023, Lizzy signed with RCA Records, a move that signaled the next chapter in her burgeoning career. She released her third studio album, Older, on April 5, 2024, supported by the lead single of the same name. The album, which reflects her personal growth and experiences over the past three years, received widespread acclaim. To promote the project, Lizzy embarked on the “Older Tour,” performing across North America and Europe.

Lizzy’s music is deeply personal, often exploring themes of love, loss, and self-discovery. Her father’s passing in March 2020 has profoundly influenced her songwriting, with each of her albums featuring a track dedicated to him. Lizzy’s musical style has been described as a blend of indie pop, folk, and bedroom pop, with her influences ranging from jazz to R&B. Her collaborations with artists like Jacob Collier, Noah Kahan, and Niall Horan have further highlighted her versatility and talent.

Despite her rapid rise to fame, Lizzy remains grounded, citing her love for music as the driving force behind her career. With each new project, Lizzy McAlpine continues to captivate audiences with her heartfelt lyrics and distinctive sound, solidifying her place as one of the most promising young artists in the industry.
