Kimetrius Christopher Foose, better known by his stage name Lil Skies, is an American rapper, singer, and songwriter born on August 4, 1998, in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. He was introduced to music early on, thanks to his father, Michael Burton Jr., a hip-hop artist who went by the name Dark Skies (now BurntMan). Skies began freestyling at just 10 years old and started recording and writing lyrics by age 12, eventually honing his skills as a musician.
Lil Skies gained recognition in 2017 when he signed with Atlantic Records and released several successful singles, including “I,” “Nowadays,” and “Red Roses,” which made significant chart appearances on the Billboard Hot 100. His debut mixtape, Life of a Dark Rose, dropped in 2018 and debuted at number 10 on the Billboard 200, later achieving platinum status, cementing his place in the rap scene.
In 2019, Lil Skies followed up with his debut studio album, Shelby, which reached number five on the Billboard 200 chart. He continued to build on his success with his second studio album, Unbothered, in 2021, which peaked at number 50.
Known for his blend of hip-hop, trap, and emo rap, Lil Skies has become a prominent figure in the modern rap scene. In addition to his music career, he’s dabbled in acting, appearing in Madden NFL 19 (2018). Outside of his career, Lil Skies became a father to his son, Kimetrius Jr., in 2019. He remains an influential force in contemporary rap music.
