About LIL PEEP
LIL PEEP, born Gustav Elijah Åhr on November 1, 1996, in Allentown, Pennsylvania, was a prominent figure in the emo rap scene, known for blending elements of rap and rock music. He grew up on Long Island and began producing and releasing music on SoundCloud in 2013 under the name Trap Goose, later changing his stage name to LIL PEEP—a nickname given to him by his mother.
In 2015, LIL PEEP gained significant attention with his single “Star Shopping” and followed it up with mixtapes LIL PEEP; Part One and Live Forever. By 2016, he had relocated to Los Angeles, where he initially faced homelessness and struggled to find his footing. However, he quickly became a key player in the underground hip-hop scene, forming the collective Schemaposse and later joining GothBoiClique. His mixtape Crybaby, released in 2016, was a pivotal moment in his career, showcasing his unique fusion of emo, punk, and hip-hop influences.
LIL PEEP’s music often dealt with themes of depression, addiction, and heartbreak, resonating deeply with a young, disaffected audience. His 2017 mixtape Hellboy further solidified his status in the music world, leading to his first solo tour across the United States and Europe. Later that year, he released his debut studio album, Come Over When You’re Sober, Pt. 1, which was followed by a second world tour.
Tragically, LIL PEEP passed away on November 15, 2017, from an accidental overdose just before a scheduled performance in Tucson, Arizona. Following his death, his fanbase grew even more, leading to posthumous releases and collaborations that kept his legacy alive. His music, which helped pioneer the emo rap genre, continues to inspire a new generation of artists and fans.
