About Lazza

Jacopo Lazzarini, professionally known as Lazza, is an Italian rapper, songwriter, and producer who has gained widespread recognition for his blend of classical music influences with modern hip-hop and trap. Born on August 22, 1994, in the Calvairate district of Milan, Lazza developed a passion for music from a young age, which led him to study piano at the prestigious Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in Milan. His classical training would later become a defining feature of his music, setting him apart in the Italian rap scene.

Lazza’s career began in earnest in 2009 when he participated in Tecniche Perfette, a prominent Italian hip-hop event, and later joined the collectives Zero2 and Blocco Recordz. His early work was marked by the release of his debut mixtape, Destiny Mixtape, in 2012, followed by K1 Mixtape in 2014. These early releases showcased Lazza’s growing skills as a rapper and producer, leading to collaborations with well-known Italian rappers such as Emis Killa. He contributed to tracks like “Bestie” and “Bella Idea,” which appeared on Emis Killa’s mixtape Keta Music Vol. 2.

Lazza’s breakthrough came in 2017 with the release of his debut studio album, Zzala. The album was a unique fusion of trap music with classical piano elements, reflecting Lazza’s diverse musical background. It produced several successful singles, including “MOB” featuring Nitro and Salmo, and “Lario,” both of which achieved platinum certification. Zzala marked the beginning of Lazza’s rise in the Italian music industry, and he promoted the album through the Zzala Tour, performing in venues across Italy.

In 2019, Lazza released his second studio album, Re Mida, which further solidified his place in the Italian rap scene. The album saw Lazza fully embracing trap music, and it debuted at the top of the Italian music charts, eventually achieving platinum certification. The success of Re Mida led to two re-releases later that year: Re Mida (Aurum), which included previously unreleased tracks and collaborations, and Re Mida (Piano Solo), a collection of solo piano renditions of select tracks from the album. The latter highlighted Lazza’s ability to bridge the worlds of classical music and hip-hop, showcasing his skills as a pianist as well as a rapper.

In 2020, Lazza released his third mixtape, J, which featured collaborations with prominent Italian rappers like Capo Plaza, Tha Supreme, and Guè Pequeno. This project was followed by his appearance on several tracks from the Bloody Vinyl 3 mixtape, further increasing his visibility and influence in the Italian music scene.

Lazza’s biggest success to date came with the release of his third studio album, Sirio, in 2022. The album debuted at number one on the FIMI Albums Chart and was certified double platinum. Sirio broke records as the longest-running album at the top of the Italian charts in the past decade, remaining in the number one position for 14 consecutive weeks.

In December 2022, Lazza was announced as a contestant in the 2023 Sanremo Music Festival, Italy’s most prestigious music competition. He entered the festival with the song “Cenere,” which earned him second place, further elevating his profile. Lazza continues to be a significant force in the Italian music industry, known for his innovative fusion of genres and his dynamic presence as a rapper and producer.
