About Imagine Dragons

Imagine Dragons, an American pop rock band, was formed in 2008 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The band consists of lead singer Dan Reynolds, guitarist Wayne Sermon, and bassist Ben McKee. They gained significant attention with the release of their single “It’s Time” and their debut album Night Visions (2012). This album featured chart-topping singles like “Radioactive” and “Demons”. Rolling Stone recognized “Radioactive” as the “biggest rock hit of the year”, a song that held the record for the most weeks charted on the Billboard Hot 100. Imagine Dragons were hailed by MTV as “the year’s biggest breakout band” and received numerous accolades, including Billboard’s “Breakthrough Band of 2013” and “Biggest Band of 2017”. They also topped Billboard’s “Year in Rock” rankings in 2013, 2017, and 2018, and were the top artists in the “Top Artists – Duo/Group” category in 2018.

Their second studio album, Smoke + Mirrors (2015), debuted at number one in the US, Canada, and the UK. This success was followed by their third album, Evolve (2017), which produced three chart-topping singles: “Believer”, “Thunder”, and “Whatever It Takes”. This album established them as the artist with the most weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot Rock Songs chart. Their fourth album, Origins (2018), included the single “Natural”, which became their fifth song to top the Hot Rock Songs chart. Despite mixed critical reception, their albums enjoyed substantial commercial success.

Mercury – Acts 1 & 2 (2022), their fifth studio album, was released as a double album and also received mixed reviews. Imagine Dragons’ influence and success in the music industry are reflected in their numerous awards, including three American Music Awards, nine Billboard Music Awards, a Grammy Award, an MTV Video Music Award, and a World Music Award. In 2014, they were nominated for 14 Billboard Music Awards, including Top Artist of the Year. In 2018, they received 11 more Billboard Music Award nominations.

The band has sold over 74 million albums and 65 million digital songs globally, making them one of the best-selling music artists in the world. They have also amassed 160 billion streams across music platforms and were the most streamed group of 2018 on Spotify. Imagine Dragons are notable for being the first rock act to have four songs—”Radioactive”, “Demons”, “Believer”, and “Thunder”—surpass one billion streams each. They are the only group in RIAA history to have four songs certified higher than Diamond. According to Billboard, “Believer”, “Thunder”, and “Radioactive” were the top three rock songs of the 2010s.

On August 30, 2023, Imagine Dragons released the song “Children of the Sky” for the video game Starfield. In early 2024, they teased new music on social media, leading to the announcement of their sixth studio album, Loom, released on June 28, 2024. The album’s lead single, “Eyes Closed”, and its remix with J Balvin, as well as the second single, “Nice to Meet You”, were released to positive reception. This album marks their first without drummer Daniel Platzman, who is on an indefinite hiatus.

Imagine Dragons’ musical style encompasses pop rock, electropop, indie pop, and alternative rock, with influences from synth-pop, dance-pop, and hip hop. Dan Reynolds cites Arcade Fire, Nirvana, Muse, The Beatles, Paul Simon, Coldplay, and U2 as major influences. Their fusion of genres and innovative approach has solidified their place in modern music, making them a significant and enduring presence in the industry.
