Laila Smith, known professionally as Laila!, is an emerging American singer, songwriter, and producer making waves in contemporary music. Born on April 19, 2006, in Brooklyn, New York, she is the daughter of renowned rapper Yasiin Bey (formerly Mos Def). From a young age, Laila! was immersed in the world of music, and by the time she was 14, she was already creating her own beats and sharing them on SoundCloud.

At 16, Laila! marked a significant milestone in her musical journey by writing and producing her debut single, “Like That!” The track, released in 2023, blended cloud rap, alternative R&B, and a DIY ethos, immediately capturing the attention of both listeners and industry professionals. It was clear that Laila! was a fresh voice with a unique sound.

In September 2024, Laila! released her debut album, Gap Year!, which she entirely self-produced. The album offers an introspective exploration of her teenage experiences, receiving critical acclaim for its heartfelt lyrics and innovative sound.
