Kuma Sagar

Kuma Sagar, born Siddhi Sagar Prajapati, is a Nepali singer-songwriter known for blending traditional Newa melodies with modern musical influences. Growing up in Bhaktapur, he was introduced to music at an early age, often accompanying his grandfather to local dafa, where he learned about classical instruments like the khing baja. These experiences instilled in him a deep appreciation for his cultural roots, shaping his artistic identity.

His journey took a significant leap in 2019 when he participated in The Voice of Nepal. Although he didn’t take home the title, the experience pushed him to focus on original compositions. His breakthrough single, A Mai Re, was inspired by a trek to Gosainkunda, capturing the longing for home and the warmth of his mother’s embrace. The song resonated deeply with listeners, gaining over 4.5 million views on YouTube and establishing him as a fresh voice in Nepal’s music industry.

Kuma is passionate about preserving Nepal’s rich musical history. He incorporates traditional Malla-era instruments like the dha, flute, and bhusyah into his work, breathing new life into age-old sounds. Tracks like Oh Champa and Chahare Sari exemplify his ability to merge heritage with contemporary music, making Newa culture accessible to a wider audience.

Beyond his solo career, Kuma leads Kuma Sagar and The Khwopa, a fusion band dedicated to celebrating Nepal’s musical traditions. Through his artistry, he continues to inspire a new generation to embrace and innovate within their cultural legacy.
